We are pleased to highlight the success of Dan Hopper, an SM3 student who was awarded a prestigious Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) Summer Studentship. Under the supervision of Dr. Nicole Hondow at the Leeds Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy Centre (LEMAS), Dan collaborated with researchers and cutting-edge tools from the SM3 team, contributing to the advancement of novel imaging techniques.

Dan’s project, titled Exploring the Capabilities of Secondary Electron Hyperspectral Imaging (SEHI) for the Analysis of Pharmaceutical-Based Materials, focused on addressing a key challenge in surface characterisation. Pharmaceutical powders are known for their beam sensitivity, making conventional electron microscopy techniques difficult to apply without sample damage or alteration. His work exemplifies the interdisciplinary and collaborative spirit of SM3, demonstrating how advanced electron microscopy techniques can be leveraged to tackle real-world materials challenges.

Congratulations to Dan for his outstanding work and for contributing to the growing impact of SM3 research!
